You're right about the being quiet sometimes thing, but we can be very talkative, in fact, we can either be totaly quiet or extremely talkative, but mostly all we ever talk about is our "special intrest." I agree with you on 2, 3 and 4, but besides 1 being that he can't tell lies, it also shows that he can't look someone directly in the eye. It's only easy for him to look at his dad's face and not his eyes because his eyes are covered. Sometimes he does look some people in the eye, but IMO it's very limited and dosen't happen often. Don't forget his "special intrest!" In a town of sardines, it is wierd to be intrested in science and inventing, and he does seem very knowageable on the subject, and if you think about it, almost all he ever talks about is something pertaining to one of his inventions. just my two cents -Cody The Maverick

Maybe the filmmakers are hinting at the fact that Flint is gifted, and they're covering all the 'bases' so to speak, when it comes to all those things, giftedness, social awkwardness, being different, Aspergers etc. the symptoms, signs, and tendencies ALL overlap. Maybe Flint's uniqueness is handled very lightly, so the broadest audience possible can relate. I came across this article online, after reading this topic and I found it quite interesting. I'm not sure if I should post it here in this thread (It might seem a tad off topic-- since the debate is whether or not the Filmmakers intended for Flint to have Aspergers and are hinting at that) And this article is in a slightly different direction. I certainly don't wish anyone to think I'm playing 'Devil's Advocate' here! Knowledge for knowledge's sake, I guess; I found it a very good read. It can add to everyone's understanding about all these things in general. If you feel it doesn't belong here Cody then feel free to remove it, I haven't made a post in a while but I don't mind. Cheers and enjoy the link, everybody! www.sengifted.org/articles_counseling/Amend_MisdiagnosisOfAspergersDisorder.shtmlMerry Christmas or Happy Holidays, whatever's cheery for everyone!

Ok, I was reading this last night and I just had to join in. I love this movie! I love Flint and pretty much all of the characters except for the mayor. And I can pretty much relate to all of ya'll who said they had Asperger's because I have it too! ;D I'm in college now, but I feel like I have the mind of a 7 year old sometimes because I just love to day dream and imagine things that are just not like this world. And I want to go into a career where I can create stories and characters for movies like CWACOM! A lot of people thought (and still think) I'm weird, but I always figured that the ones who are picked on for being strange wind up doing great things! So, I'm proud to say that I love being strange! (These Flint emocons are cute BTW! ) I'm Philintphan BTW, but you may also call me Jess

Cody was adduced enough arguments for this and I say "Yes" . But in our country people are not so high classified, than, I think, in the USA. I don't know have I Aspergers or not, but I exactly know that I'm different. I was different in the school, and even in university I'm different. (But I think all our faculty consist of nerds. We have an adage: "All crazy people of the Russia go to study on Biological faculty of MSU." ) For example: people of my age are thinks about family or money or something another "adult" things (I don't understand them ) and I'm think about robots, dinosaurs and fantastic adventures. Or: into electrotrain company of students talk about another party and I'm watch which model of electrotrain pass by my window. And e.t.c. It's great to be different, but... so lonely. So I'm glad to know all of you and talk with you here.

Maby you can turn your aspergers into something good like a challenge! See how many friends you can make in a day. Here's some advice, don't go begging people to be your friend because you'll look like a total LOSER, trust me. But if you're like ok nobody wants to be my friend which is perectly fine with me the more people will want to be your friend. Find something to do alone with that aditude and you will be at least a little more popular over time. Hope it helps . Remember aspergers just makes life a little more challengeing but if you can win the challenge then you win through life.

I know why Flint walks like that!!!!I listened to the commentary, and they make Flint walk like that(award)because that's how Bill Hader walks. But i really have no explanation for anything else. And wow, that's amazing. Flint might have Asburgers? But i do think it's more of a gift in this case. But none should like anyone less just because they have a mental illness. I have one, and my sister hates me because of it, and the teachers at my old school didn't treat me the same (even though i got good grades) and I'm being home schooled now, and it really hurts when no one treats you the same way when they know you have a mental illness. I feel really bad for Flint. Sam

now i'm wondering if flint really has the asperger's syndrome, how woud the townspeople react if they found out about it? a lot of people only react so mean, because they're "scared" or can't handle the situation, because they don't understand it.

Psht it's Jack-Spicers-Girl from DA. I'm FOLLOWING your ideas now. XD
I have another reason to prove this theory. Ever notice how quickly, awkwardly, and abruptly he reacts to startling things? (i.e. when he's turning the fuse box back on and his dad walks in on him doing his "theme music", and he proceeds to yelp and hit the fuse box head first.)

I really don't think Flint has that syndrome. He may act strange at times but thatjust makes him who he is. I am strange but I don't have Asperger's. Cody, if it makes you feel better thinking so then that is understandable. But my personal opinion is that he is just unique . And about his Dad and not being able to give him eyecontact... Flint is probably intimidated by his father and feels ackward giving him eyecontact especialy when he almost never sees his fathers eyes anyway. He is just unique. Everyone who is unique doesn't have Asperger's.

People sometimes, especially teens don't look people right in the eyes sometimes, but you never know, Flint could have asburgers.

Now I dont mean to be an antagonist in this situation with disagreeing with everyone who does say he has Asperger's but I dont think he does. If he did becuase of what youve said, it wouldve had sinifigance in the movie and they probably wouldve said so. Also, Im definately different, I talk fast get offtopic dont ever look anyone in the eye (sorry wrong grammer Im from the south) and I walk like Flint does... I have most of the qualities but I dont have Aspergers. Hes just... different. But I totally see why everyone thinks this to be true. It makes sense.

I sort of agree with mrsflintlockwood. Just because yor different doesn't mean you have a syndrome or mediacal condition....(Don't want to sound rude. This is just my opinion.)
