I decided to create a thread for it because I see hardly anyone discussing it. I've been watching it, don't know why maybe it's because I'm so hyperfixated on this franchise. Same reason why I go back to watch certain scenes of the sequel and take pictures of cute Flint despite hating the sequel so much. I'm going to keep this brief and I'm happy to discuss more in depth in replies.
I watched around 7ish episodes so far and it's such a terrible show although I guess not quite bad enough to be complete torture but it's more like a 3.5 or 4 out of 10. I try to always find positive things about something and there are. The animation is okay although ugly and more over the top than the movies at times. The voice acting is decent although Flint's cries and laughs or gasping or whatever can sound fake sometimes. I did laugh at a few jokes although most of them are either mean-spirited, toilet humor, or stupid juvenile humor I didn't care for. The plots and most of the premises are all stupid, even the ones that seem interesting on paper, they always find a way to mess it up. And OMG the Science of the Toot, were the writers okay when they made that? Who made that because I want to find them! That was so messed up. I can't see how even kids who love fart jokes will like this, the joke gets old really quickly and the end just... I don't know what to say. The show also gets too reliant on sci-fi to nonsensical amounts whereas in the movie, yes it was sci-fi and not real but it at least made sense to some regard. Like why should there be science for why people like gross things? And Flint is always talking about and referring to science in such an annoying way even for the simplest of things, you'd think he was some kind of robot programmed to be into science.
The characters are all horribly flanderized and a lot more obnoxious and stupid. They don't even act like high schoolers, they act more like toddlers, another attempt at pandering to the lowest common denominator. And even the adults like Tim, Manny, and Earl don't even feel the same. There are a lot of continuity errors I don't need to explain like what's with all the references to the movies? This is a prequel and why call it Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs when it has nothing to do with the title? Maybe call it Flint Lockwood: The High School Years or something? Steve is the only character who seems to act exactly the same like in the movies.
The idea is fanficy but I think it had potential to be a lot better if it was more reliant on creativity and relatable characters similar to the first movie. And get rid of Sam, there was no reason for her to be there even if there's an excuse. I think the show would've been a lot more compelling if Flint was alone like in the films and was forced to solve his own problems since Sam is pretty much only there to be Flint's confidante and helper and she's often obnoxious and stupid like the other characters in her advice. It also would've led to some more interesting drama and would've gave Flint's need for approval more substance if he was friendless. Maybe we could've had an episode of him inventing something to try to make friends? Unless that exists.
Anyway, what's your opinion on it?
