I don't have Aspergers but my sister does and some of the stuff Flint does kinda reminds me of stuff that she does, but I am not sure Flint has it. I think Flint is just a very unique individual.

I think Flint has Aspergers. >.> There are alot of things that points to it (like the first post in this thread) And the things I read about it in A Gift or a Curse (and after reading it I swear I have aspergers o_Ö) are like Flint's behaviour. xD

I think he has a lower case of it. I agree, after I read "A gift or a curse", I think I've got it too!

I think I have it x3 But I can be very social so probably not. I think Im just an introvert who likes things no one else does and is different. But luckily I keep it to myself and stay quiet and it alot. Thats how I think Flint is. Just different.
But thats just me.

Sam, some say that she might have Asperger's too, but, since she (aparently) lives in NYC(where everything is in the present), she would have discovered she had it quickly, and tried to live with it/hide it. Unlike Flint, whom, living in a town stuck in the past(1980's-ish according to the art book) and having Asperger's being officaly regonized in 1994, no one in Swallow Falls would have known about it, including Flint, so he wouldn't have known that there was something wrong with him, so he wouldn't change who he is like Sam did. And the number of people in the town is "small but large" (about 300 people according to the orignal book) and with a 1 to 500 ratio of Asperger's people to non-asperger's, it would make enough sense for at least 1 person to have it, that one person being Flint. Word, this. But the ratio isn't that large. Where did you get those numbers? Now I dont mean to be an antagonist in this situation with disagreeing with everyone who does say he has Asperger's but I dont think he does. If he did becuase of what youve said, it wouldve had sinifigance in the movie and they probably wouldve said so. No, no, no, no, no, no. Asperger's is at the Hollywood stage where if a fictional character is announced as having it, they can only be a stereotype lest the audience not believe they do have it. However, ironically, no one person with Asperger's fits every symptom. At this point, it's best that it is only implied in canon, as in Flint's case. I am officially diagnosed with Asperger's and I'm more like Sam than Flint, but I thought this about Flint right away and I'm not surprised to see this discussion.

So wait, Sour Grape, do you think Flint has Asperger's? I don't understand the context of your answer. P.S. I have Asperger's too, and I was convinced that Flint was an Aspie when I first saw the movie!

Well, I have some traits, but I don't think that means a strong ambition in something you turlly love and some awkward or unique traits, shouldn't make a person an Aspie. Same traits, but I don't think he is. just different is all. I have to say I'm not a huge believer in this particular theory, I mean after all he is a fictional character, so of course his personality along with his appearance is going to be super exaggerated. That's not to say I'm bashing anyone who does believe this is true, and I'm really glad you backed up your argument instead of just throwing it out there, but I just don't agree with it is all. Of course, maybe I'm jaded because people constantly treat me like I have 20 different types of insane diseases, like my dad, and after doing the research, found I wasn't, but my dad might have been. Like for instance borderline personality disorder. Geesh... that would suck. I mean, I could contrive a list of reasons why he might have that, too. - Childish behavior - The "all or nothing" - Social awkwardness ("hermit" personality) I think we're all people here. That's all.

jeez i knew a boy who has aspergers. He is the NICEST 2nd most AWESOMEST boy i've ever met, but he gets bullied so often. Not cool! "I wish nerdiness could be socially useful, not social liability." Phil Lord

Yes, my friend, Alec, also has Aspergers. Sour Grapes is correct, I believe that Hollywood would get criticism for stereotyping a person with Autism. They would lose money, because that is all that matters, right. (I'm joking. ^^ Sometimes people take things too literally on here.)
