Hey guys! I've been writing alot here lately, and I wanted to show you my most recent story, The Moonlight Path. Its the second story I've writen and the second mystery of the Ava Leomax series! Enjoy!
It was a stormy night in Mount July. Despite the fierce storm outside, everything was peaceful in the city. To Ava Leomax, it was a normal day. However, she had a new item to study. It was a old music box that she found in the Antique shop a block away from her house. During Dinner, she was studying and examing it. "Its a charming little music box, isn't it?" Ava said to her brother, Lafayette. "Yes, its very charming, now eat your dinner," Lafayettle replied, taking another bite of his meal. Ava gave a quick glare and took a bite. "It baffles me though," Ava said after swallowing her food. "Its obivously made sometime recently, but it is so full of detail and glamour it makes you think of the eighteen hundreds." Ava began winding up the music box. "Lafayette, listen to this song. I have no idea what song this is." The music box began to play. The song was diffrent, it was something both Ava and Lafayette never heard of before. It was Angelic, catchy, and simple. "What do you think?" Ava said after the song ended. "I've never heard of it before," Lafayette shrugged. "Its a nice song though, I really have nothing more to say other then this antique may take a long time to learn who used to own it and why." Ava closed the box. The box had a special picture on top of it. It showed a young woman with flowers in her hair with a fancy dress. Just like the song, she seemed angelic as well. Ava pushed the music box aside, and began eating. As soon as desert came, there was a knock on the door. Félicien hopped next to the window and started barking. "Its probably just the wind," Ava mumbled. Félicien ran to Ava and began tugging on her dress. "There's nothing out there!" Ava looked out the window, but she was wrong. There was a person dressed in dark cloth standing out there. "Lafayette, someone is knocking on the door." Ava went back to the table. "Who?" Lafayette replied. "I have no idea," Ava sat back down. "Its somebody dressed in black cloth with Navy blue hair." The person knocked on the door again. "Please open the door," the person said, the voice was a woman's. "I must talk to you." Ava and Lafayette looked at each other with befuddlement, and then opened the door. The person with the black cloth slowly walked in. "And who might you be?" Ava questioned the woman. The woman didn't answer Ava's question. "The music box," she said. Ava turned to face the music box. "What about it? Ava replied. "I need it," The woman said. Ava picked up the music box with caution. "And why do you need it?" Ava said with a curious tone. The woman quickly replied. "It was the music box I had when I was a small child. I cherished it, I want it back." Ava turned to Lafayette, and Lafayette shrugged. They were both confused by the woman. "If you loved it so much, how did it end up in a Antique shop?" Ava questioned. The woman paused, then said, "It was stolen from me and ended up in the antique shop. May I have it back?" Ava sighed, the woman wasn't going to give up. Every reply she said was filled with tenacity. "I guess my curiousity with the music box has faded," Ava handed the music box to the woman. The woman smiled warmly when she received it. A crash of thunder outside made everyone jump, and the woman ran away. "Hey!" Ava stepped outside. Félicien joined Ava and barked loudly. The woman was gone, the rain was so heavy that you couldn't see a thing. "Get back in here!" Lafayette grabbed Ava and Félicien. "You'll get a cold standing in that weather!" Ava was still stunned by the woman. "No thank you?" she mumbled. "Yeah, that woman was weird." Lafayette said. "She was probably going to thank you, but the thunder scared her off." Ava sat back down and began thinking deeply. "She ran west, then she ran north," Ava mumbled. "Do you think its somekind of mystery, Ava?" Lafayette laughed. "Well, it makes you wonder," Ava replied. "She was in a black cloth, which is odd, she randomly comes to her house knowing that I have the box, which is strange, and then she ran to the Moonlight path..." Lafayette was confused again. "Now your making up names!" Lafayette said with a annoyed tone. "I'm not!" Ava snapped back. "The Moonlight path is a real place. Its a path surrounded by trees. The places sparkles when its night time." "And thats it?" Lafayette asked. "We've never been there," Ava sighed. "So, I don't know." For the rest of the night, Ava try to forget about the music box and the strange woman. Ava didn't sleep very well because of it, at least she had Félicien comfort her during the night. The next morning was sunny. Ava thought a walk would help her forget last night's strange encounter. It was a quiet, peaceful night until she ran up to Junior. "Hi Ava," Junior smiled. "How are you?" "Fine, I guess," Ava replied and sighed. Ava noticed that Junior was carrying something in his hand. "What do you have?" Ava asked. "Oh, its someone's compass," Junior replied. "Ver early last night I had to go to the grocery store to get milk for Madam Agate. When I was heading back home, I bumped into a woman wearing black cloth. I helped her up, but she ran off. And she dropped this compass." Ava was shocked by the story, "Did she have Navy blue hair?" she asked. "Yes," Junior replied. "Why?" "Ok, something strange happened last night," Ava said. "This woman who was wearing black cloth with navy blue hair asked us if she could have the music box I was studying, I adventully gave her the music box but she ran off with no thank you." "That sounds like the woman," Junior said. Ava stomped her feet. "We are going to the Moonlight Path," she said. Her and Junior headed back to the house. Junior retold the whole story to Lafayette. "Thats the woman," Lafayette said. "We must visit that woman!" Ava said. "To give her back her compass..." Lafayette stood up. "Fine. We'll go. This won't take a while, were just give a woman a compass, right?" Junior opened up the compass, it had the letter C on it. "That must be the beginning letter of the woman's name," Junior said while looking at the compass. "Great," Ava replied. "That gives us a clue, lets head to the Moonlight Path now." The small group traveled on the path, they followed the fresh footsteps leading some where. The footsteps stopped at a creepy abandoned castle. "I've never seen anything like this before," Ava said in awe. "Are we still in Mount July?" Lafayette asked. "Were not far from Mount July, lets say that," Ava replied. Junior tryed to open the door. "Its no use," he said. "The door is rusted so much where it can't even open." Félicien began to bark,he found a opened window! "Good boy, Félicien," Lafayette smiled and petted him. Everyone hopped in to the castle, it was completely bare inside other then large stairs. Ava slowly walked closer to the stairs, she heard the melody of the music box. "Somebody's home," Ava said. She began walking up the stairs, so did everyone else. The stairs lead up to a small little room, Ava opened the door quietly. "I knew you were coming," a voice said. It was the voice of the woman. She turned, everyone finally got to see her face. She was the angelic looking woman on the music box. "I'm Cora," She said. Junior walked closer to Cora, "You forgot this when I bumped into you," he showed her the compass. Cora quickly took the compass out of his hands. "Thank you," Cora smiled and looked up. Ava and Lafayette didn't seem to have the same joy as she did. "I'm sorry that I didn't thank you," Cora sighed. "I'm scared of thunderstorms. I have been ever since I was a child..." "Thats ok," Ava smiled. "But I still have a few more questions for you. Why did you want the music box, and why do you live here?" Cora stretched. "I ranaway from my family because they didn't take care of me, only them selves. I ended up here in the Moonlight path, and I found this abandoned Castle and fell in love with it. I grew up here, I taught myself everything I know today. I made the music box because I wanted something to cheer me up when I was sad, lonely,or confused. Last month, someone found my castle and stole my music box because they thought it was a rare antique. I was so deppressed when it came up missing. Thats why I headed to the Mount July Antique shop. The salesperson said that the antique was bought by a young girl name Ava Leomax. Since you were a somewhat famous detective, I knew where your house was at." "That explanes everything," Ava said. "I'm glad you have your music box back." Everything ended up fine. Cora was happy again with her music box. Infact, Ava and Cora have became friends since this tiny, little mystery.
